Holy f*ck you guys, you have no idea how happy I am that it is FINALLY October and officially fall. It has been very dark, grey and gloomy in New York these last few days and I have loved every minute of it. Sounds odd and deranged but as my cousin and I like to say, it’s been perfect weather for a good slasher. *I should probably take it easy with that though with all these clowns running around IRL..* This weather has had comfort food written all over it, which is exactly what I fell back on as soon as it was nippy enough to wear a jacket to work.
This week has been filled with a lot of impulse purchases, Fall-weather-food and planning for the weeks ahead! October is a crazy busy month for me and to sum it all up I’m going to break this post down into 3 sections: Food, Fashion, Fun *dur*.
Aside from the soon-to-be-higlight-of-my-life, the first week of October has certainly not disappointed when it comes to delicious bites. It seems like New York finally got the memo to chill the f*ck out *literally* and its been refreshingly cool and Fall-like. These last few days I tried my hand at a little homemade comfort food; helllllooo Fettuccine with Mushrooms and Crispy Prosciutto. *recipe snagged from this month’s cover of Bon Appétit and can be found here*, ate Momofuku ramen next to Daniel Craig *aka James Bond*, bought a bottle of Absinthe *which I used to make a lethal, nearly undrinkable cocktail. I’m sorry sweet Sazerac*, celebrated #tacotuesday & #nationaltacoday with the best tacos in Manhattan *shout out to Los Tacos No. 1*, dove head first into some Matzo Ball Soup and made an Eataly-inspired Charcuterie plate. This week has been a little slice of foodie heaven and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the month has in store.
Ok ok ok, moving on to the fuuuuun! October is by far my favorite month of the year and Halloween is like my Christmas, so there’s definitely lots of fun to be had these next few weeks. As I mentioned previously, this weekend will be filled with a whole lot of food, drank and childhood-fun. However when I get back I am super excited to get out of BK and explore some orchards for apple picking. After a few google searches I came across a site called offMetro which was very helpful in finding orchards only a train ride away from the city. *I looked up the possibility of a rental car and the prices were not pretty* I’ve been scoping out one place in particular in North Salem, NY that is known for its Apple Cider Doughnuts..might be a no brainer. {Fellow New Yorkers can also check those places out here}
Another doozy of fun that I am very much looking forward to is spending Halloween in Boston! I haven’t been to Boston since I was maybe 11 or 12 and the only thing I really remember is seeing the Blue Man Group, so I think it’s safe to say its time for another visit. I feel like it will be all witchy-spooky-halloweeny-amazing and I’m having a hard time containing my excitement. Although, I definitely have to use these next few weeks to put together a little restaurant itinerary of all the spots to hit and, of course, THE SEAFOOD. I <3 you, Boston.
Now, before I dive into some recent Fall fashion finds I should probably preface with a story. Last Monday I impulsively bought a flight back to Chicago to see Britney Spears at the B96 Jingle Bash. *It was Monday, I was vulnerable, my cousin and his gay friends convinced me!* So..by the time I hit the thrift store on Tuesday you best believe I was on the hunt for some pieces for Britnaaaay. And, its safe to say I found one! Yes, I snagged myself an 80’s-vintage-white-faux-fur jacket that I am really pretty obsessed with. Not to mention 2 turtlenecks and a vintage baseball tee that says ‘Biddies’. Gotta give it up to Beacon’s Closet in Park Slope for some amazing thrift finds.
As if those gems weren’t enough I also managed to snag a Levi’s Vintage Denim Jacket from ASOS Marketplace. I had never browsed through this section of their website and I’m wondering what rock I’ve been living under recently. Although this jacket hasn’t arrived yet, it has the most amazing red quilted lining and looks pretty amaze online. {pls do yourself a favor and check out ASOS Marketplace here, if you want to find amazing vintage/thrift pieces but are too lazy to get yo ass off yo couch}
Well, I’m assuming when I go to write my next post I’ll have eaten my weight in 23 countries’ worth of deliciousness and may only fit into my fur coat. If that is the case, at least I’ll be feeling good and well dressed…until next time, hasta la pasta!
