Burlesque Shows & Bucket Lists

9.27.16

Ah September. The intro month to the greatest season of them all, Fall.

The end of September means a few things {for me}, packing up that summer wardrobe, the end of birthdays and preparing yourself for seasonal beers, Halloween and amazing comfort food.

I began writing this post while on a flight from Phoenix to New York, where we spent the weekend celebrating Jordan’s birthday, and finished writing this at home in Brooklyn, while eating a leftover birthday cake out of a Pyrex bowl. *Channeling my inner Miranda SATC circa season 4, as I may need to be checked into the Betty Crocker Clinic if I have one more bite*

The last 7 days have been filled with Burlesque shows, more birthdays, long weekends in the desert and the pre-mature start to my food-to-be-consumed-ASAP bucket list. A few particular highlights of the week were a Red Hook Lobster Pound-Lobster Roll; highly recommend their Connecticut L-Roll which is served with warm butter, lemon, paprika and scallions *drooooooool; a strip tease Burlesque show at Bathtub Gin, a speakeasy located through a functional coffee shop in Chelsea; the best damn chocolate chip cookie in Manhattan, found at Eataly; In-N-Out *duh* and my favorite, learning the intricate science that is the “Anatomy of a Po’Boy”. *Thank you October Issue of Bon Appétit*

But first, gotta touch on our few days out of the Big Apple. 5 hours, 2 magazines, 100 pages of Girl on the Train and 1/2 an Eataly cookie later and we had arrived. Our few days in sunny AZ were spent boozing, brunching and, of course, making Paella. *Something we’ve had to give up living in New York, after ditching our grill in CO* In 3 days I finished Girl on the Train, a feat that made me realize I still remembered how to read and also has me seriously looking forward to seeing it in theaters. In those 3 days I also realized that birthdays are over, Halloween is around the corner and I need to get serious about working off the Double Double Animal Style I consumed at 11pm on Thursday night.

With all the Sazeracs, Burlesque shows and NY Style Slices, I can’t say that the week was completely stress free. *Of course tho* An update for those following my apt move from hell – I did go to Home Depot with a few pathetic paint chips, praying that Jesus himself had the technology to make a perfect match. To the naked eye it looked perfect. Once I used said perfect paint to patch *try saying that 3x fast* the spots that had been puttied, waited for it to dry and looked again with the naked eye, it looked totally fucked. So yes, the saga and countdown to Friday *day my lease officially ends* continues..

However, a little pinch of positivity did come a few days ago when I convinced 2 of my nearest & dearest college BFF’s to come out for a little impromptu Brooklyn visit in November *shout out to Air & Bexx*; which prompted me to get my shit together and start making a bomb a$$ itinerary of all the places we can eat to & through in the span of 72 hours. Some of the amazingly delicious spots that have made the list so far are as follows: Calaca, Los Tacos No. 1, L’Industrie Pizzeria, Antica Pesa, Hell Phone, Featherweight, Prince Street Pizza, Larry Lawrence and many more TBD.

At the end of a rad week I like to make a massive to-do list of things to keep an eye on for the next week and to set goals of things to accomplish. That being said.. today meant getting serious about stopping my epic procrastination and I registered my -phat- ass in the Prospect Park 4 mi. Jingle Jog in December. Hey, I’m aware it sounds ridiculous but at least its a start. A start and end that I will more than likely be documenting on this little gem, but until then, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go raid the kitchen for a little midnight snack-a-roo.
